The Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) commissioned this mural for their 2019 Conference in Palo Alto, California. The Future Accelerator Singing Tree also commemorates the 50th anniversary of astronaut Edgar Mitchell’s  founding of IONS, which is dedicated to the mind in all its ways of knowing, both scientific and spiritual.  When Edgar traveled back from the moon, his ship spun so that he saw the moon, the sun, the earth, the moon, the sun, the earth. He experienced a dissolving of his physical self into all the molecules of the universe.  For three days, this mystical experience mystified the engineer.  Because of this profound spiritual transformation, he dedicated his life to bringing together the sciences and the intuitive in the Institute of Noetic Sciences.

Unity Through Creativity has exhibited Singing Tree murals at numerous IONS conferences over two decades. Founder Laurie Marshall brought young people to meet Edgar Mitchell and ask him questions.  The conversation was filmed.
