The Singing Tree of Balance, Peace and Freedom
Kathleen Brigidina facilitated the “The Singing Tree of Balance Peace and Freedom” mural at Kane County Womens Jail in Illinois. The inmate team worked together discussing and co-creating a vision for the mural over the course of four weeks. Each woman created an individual canvas to express their personal visions. The Facilitator merged the visions into one large collaborative mural. The participants came in with minimal to no painting experience and varied degrees of anxiety that prevented them having confidence from engaging with others. Some were deep in anger and fear. By the end of this project, each woman became less intimidated by painting and expressing themselves, as well as feeling seen, heard and respected by each other and by themselves.
