The Singing Tree of Radiant Resilience Through Metamorphosis

Hosted by the Solano Pride Center, the 154th Singing Tree mural was co-designed and painted by twelve members of the LGBTQIA+ community during a workshop on May 23–24, 2026.
Measuring 5' x 8', the mural imagines and celebrates a human world free from fear, hate, and prejudice. The earth, fractured by exclusion and injustice, has been stitched back together through the transformative power of love, creativity, and butterflies. The White Mulberry bears fruit in the colors of the trans, non-binary, and lesbian flags. A community of androgynous beings celebrate freedom and belonging, thriving during times of joy and lightness and during times of difficulty and darkness.
The participants chose two trees to honor, the Striped Maple and the White Mulberry. The maple tree produces both male “pollen flowers” and female “seed flowers” during the same spring season. The mulberry is also adaptable, able to switch from male to female and vice versa in response to environmental conditions. They are both non-binary and gender fluid - natural, life-sustaining expressions of resilience and transformation.
The mural was displayed at the May 31st Solano Pride Day where twenty community members contributed leaves and more than a hundred people stopped to admire the beautiful artwork and positive messaging.
One workshop participant stated:
"Having a little more connection and expression, in collaboration with people who understand me and my experience, has been very relieving and comforting. It feels more real when, for the first time, I can see my own community."
The mural was co-facilitated by Leslie Rein and Diana Sciaretta with the assistance of Vickie Tugwell, Program Coordinator and Manager for Crescent Moon Center who funded the project.
