11379825-db8c-4cf9-badc-5dc3f4be94d8 Back to Gallery Mural # 52 Phoenix Singing Tree 1/1 My high school and Geyserville elementary are the only two schools in the district. I collaborated with the kinder class that my son was In at the time. After the mural was painted I brought it with the leaves and birds to the annual Geyserville Fall Colors event and set up a booth where community members contributed. With the elementary and high school student bird and leaves and the communities we put it together. Shortly after, a few students of mine from my elective class and I went over to the elementary during a gratitude ceremony for the first responders and presented it with the kids at the assembly sharing the origin of your singing tree and our community story and vision for the tree. I’ll send pics. It was magical. - Amy Wilson Date: December 3, 2017 Facilitator: Amy Wilson Partners: Geyserville Elementary Location: 1320 Moody Ln, Geyserville, CA 95441 Previous Next

7a34e456-305b-450b-9118-84fa3775815c Back to Gallery Mural # 131 Songs of Our Mothers: The 131st Singing Tree 1/1 “We are mothers and grandmothers. We are women who lived through turbulent times in our 20’s. Then, explored our passions through careers in advocacy. Now, we are women maturing into elderhood with strong life stories to be shared with the next generation of younger women.” Members of Healing & Uniting Every Sista (HUES) , a group at San Francisco AIDS Foundation , came together to explore how to share their experiences as long-term survivors of HIV. Our women, our Mothers of the Movement, detail points of their lives, focusing on the 4 phases of womanhood—growth in childhood; the twisting & turnings of young adulthood; the Sisterhood years with the passions of love, friendships and careers; lastly, we learn that the phase of elderhood widens us into a balanced state between matured individuality and dependence upon others. “We needed to draw our tree with big solid roots, because roots are the stories our mothers and grandmothers told us. Stories of their struggles and their hope and their joys. Stories of the hard, often violent injustices and inequities. We need to share these stories so we know that we too can and will survive. Hearing these stories is what makes us grow up with a strong trunk. That solid trunk branches out into four phases of womanhood. Each branch grows leaves, each leaf as unique as each person.” “The Singing Tree Mural Journey has been a vibrant exploration of cultural identity and resilience for me.” - Ebony Gordon Funded by San Francesco AIDS Foundation Date: January 31, 2024 Facilitator: Diana Sciarretta Partners: San Francisco Aids Foundation Location: 1035 Market St fl 4, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA Previous Next

It seemed like when we shared each others pictures and concepts that a couple of us would have the same ideas."Of course it looked different and everything: but like water was a theme, having an Africa, just over and over again, our minds were automatically thinking alike.” Like I said this was wonderful for me. I’m a behind the scenes girl so just being open and sharing, this was definitely new for me. I’m looking forward to it.
